Frequently Asked Questions
I don't know how to read music.
We typically don't use sheet music, so it's fine if you don't read music.
Can I attend the classes on a drop-in basis?
No, the choir is not a drop-in class. We build our repertoire from week to week and we ask singers to make a commitment. This is part of the magic of the choir – a steady group commits to working together each week.
Can I try it out before committing to the whole series?
New members may attend the first class in the series for $25. If you decide to sign up for the full series that day, your $25 will go toward your dues, and you'll still get the early bird rate. We recommend all new members take some time to watch our videos and listen to the sample songs on this website to get a better sense of whether or not it'll be a good fit for you.
Is it okay if I need to miss one or two of the classes?
Yes, it's fine if you need to miss one or two classes. We practice the same songs in the Point Reyes and Stinson/Bolinas chapters each week, so you can do a make-up session in the other town anytime. If you need to miss an entire week, you'll still have access to the website rehearsal area so you can stay caught up.
What if I can't attend a performance?
While we do schedule pop-up performances now and then, the choir is more about the enjoyment of singing together each week than it is about performing. All performances are optional, so if you can't make it to one of the performances, that's fine.
Can I attend the other town's choir chapter?
You can attend either chapter any time, even if you want to double-up in one week.
Am I a good enough singer?
All voices are truly welcome in Common Voice. The choir is a blend of experienced and inexperienced singers. Many people find that singing in a group helps them to carry the tune more easily. We believe all voices are meant to be heard! We also provide really really good rehearsal recordings so that you can spend extra time practicing at home, which can go a long way toward bolstering confidence.
Can I join after the series has begun?
Yes, this is usually fine if it's not more 2 or 3 weeks into the season. Please Contact Us so we can work out the details.
